Creating Custom Pewter Figurines and Models
Creating Custom Pewter Figurines and Models: The Journey from Idea to Reality
Everything starts with your idea for a figurine or model that you want to create out of pewter. This idea is then transformed into 2D artwork by our graphic artists who bring your vision to life. Once we receive approval for the 2D artwork, the design is handed over to our 3D artists to sculpt your vision into reality.
Our technicians review the 3D render before 3D printing to ensure it accurately represents your vision and that it can be moulded and cast effectively. After the 3D render is approved, the item is printed in-house using a 3D printer, typically, items are divided into multiple parts for easy casting. The 3D print is cleaned, cured, and prepared by our master pewter smith into natural rubber casting moulds.
Once the mould is ready for casting, it's placed in a spin-cast machine, and liquid pewter is poured into the rubber moulds, allowed to cool and set before removing. The separate pieces are soldered together—our largest project consisted of 25 pieces. The figurines or models are then ready for acid dipping to achieve the desired patina effect, then finished off with a final polish.
All custom 3D figurines and models are handcrafted in Australia using local materials. Each piece is unique and made with care and passion.
